44. ΓΟΛΕΤΟΜΠΡΙΚΟ ΣΥΛΦΗΣ (sic), αχρονολόγητο και ανυπόγραφο.  Το γνήσιο γολετόμπρικο Συλφής, με σκαρί καραβόσκαρου και αρματωσιά σκούνας, εικονίζεται εδώ εν κινήσει σε στιγμή ναυτικού χειρισμού. Στο βάθος αριστερά διακρίνεται ένα μπάρκο και δεξιά ένα ατμόπλοιο καθώς και άλλα πλοία και σκάφη. Το Συλφής πλέει όρτσα ή σε κλειστή πλαγιοδρομία με αρκετά δυνατό αεράκι. Έχει όλα τα ιστία ανοιγμένα εκτός από τον τρίγκο, ο οποίος είναι εν μέρει μαζεμένος με τα μπρούλια. Πρόκειται για ένα ζωντανό, πιστό και ακριβές δείγμα λαϊκής ζωγραφικής.

44. BRIGANTINE SYLPHIS, undated and unsigned. The true brigantine Sylphis, with her karavoskaro hull and skouna rig, is shown here in a "dynamic" portrait of the ship in action in her nautical setting. In the background are a barque at left and a steamer at right, plus a few other craft. Sylphis, the subject of this portrait, is sailing close to the wind or close hauled in a brisk breeze. She carries a full suit of sails, except for her partly brailed up fore course. This naïve vernacular painting is lively, convincing and correct in all discernible details. The dolphin-striker is straight, as on non-Greek ships. The other vessels in the background are skillfully done, even the steamship in three-quarters bow view. Yet another masterpiece by an unknown ship-portraitist.
